Solo-K not Solo anymore?

Do you have a Solo-K and you just hired an employee? You don’t have to get rid of your Solo-K, just stop contributing to it (unless you plan on complying with the coverage and nondiscrimination requirements). Instead, set up an IRA and make the contribution there.

However, in states like California, LLCs come with a $800 annual minimum tax, which cannot be avoided simply by filing in another state. A better alternative for some is a self directed 401k.
